There is Magic in Forgiveness

Most folks think forgiveness means reaching a point where you can forget a wrong. But is is not about forgetting, it is about making the best repairs to relationships with God, self and others, that can be made in a given circumstance.
The Amish did not forget that that Charles Roberts killed five children in a school house last year, what they did was see him as human and forgive him –and it moved the world. Indeed, as if by magic, those acts of forgiveness were so powerful that they actually made the world a better place–a better place– in the most horrible situation. They literally brought the Reign of God into the world. WOW! That’s some amazing magic.
That same magic is a part of Jesus’ story. Jesus and God did not respond violently to Rome’s killing Jesus. They acted with forgiveness and their acts have for 2000 years transcended the tragedy of Jesus’ violent death and echoed on through the ages calling us to that very same magic, offering us the magic of forgiveness. I dare say the same type of magic can be found in the MLK and Gandhi stories where they did not forget but forgave. It can be found where there is forgiveness.
Forgiveness is magic. The magic of Love. It’s very cool stuff.
