A Prayer for the Start of the Christmas Season
By Administrator | November 25, 2007
Great Spirit, Good God,
The first hints of the Christmas season began to arrive in the summer at hobby and crafts stores. Now late in November we are surrounded by commerce touting Christmas at what seems like every turn in our lives. Although we often find ourselves annoyed with the commercialism that seems to make ever widening circles around Christmas, teach us dear God to see the positive in all that heavy emphasis on Christmas by the commercial world.
With plenty of folks not coming to church to hear the Christmas Word let us be grateful that the Christmas Spirit has found a way to hitchhike on the back of business trucks and in shops around the world.
We are so grateful that you once chose a stable floor of an unknowing innkeeper as the vehicle for delivery of Christ. Help us be mindful that there is good news in Christmas grasping our culture in malls and on main street. There is never a bad time to be reminded of the baby Jesus and his humble beginnings on Christmas.
For years this Sacred season has been commercialized to a point that would surely be death to any other idea, yet every year the Spirit of Christmas lives on rearing up and overwhelming the din and clutter of our enterprising culture, spreading its good cheer, compassion, warmth and love. The story of love that is Jesus’ life can not be overshadowed. The Spirit of Christmas shines, and in the process people are transformed, giving a little more, loving one another, smiling and wishing joy. Thank you God for the miracle of the Christmas Season when you and your love take center stage.
AMEN
Rev. Scott Elliott
