A Prayer of Hope for the Second Sunday of Advent
By Administrator | December 9, 2007
Gracious God of Life and Love and Hope,
We are gathered on this Second Sunday of Advent where we remember the hope that is this season. It is still stunning to think that two thousand years ago a little peasant family brought into this world a baby who transformed the world. A baby who perennially offers Peace and Love and Joy and most especially Hope.
Hope personally that through Jesus we can be saved from our lesser selves day in and day out, moment by moment.
Hope as church that we can make a positive difference in our community at home, right here at 451 Riviera Drive and down the block and as far as the eye can see.
Hope as a part of creation that Your peace will one day reign, that one day “justice [will] roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever following stream.” (Amos 5:25).
We hope at this time of year more than any other that your steadfast Love will lead us, all nations and all of creation to your Peace. Peace both you and we await, long for and hope to have.
Give us the strength to wait for that which we have not yet seen. As Paul wrote in Romans (8:24-25) “For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
God, through Jesus we do see there is hope. Through the first Christmas, and each one ever since, we know that a better world is possible. That is your promise through not just Jesus, but. each one of us. Help us understand that we are the hope. Help us be the hope.
