An Epiphany Pastoral Prayer 1.06.08

By Administrator | January 6, 2008

God of Love and Revelation,

We are gathered here before you today, a day we remember as Epiphany, the Christian holiday commemorating the revelation of Jesus to humankind. We remember specifically those Magi, the Wise Ones, who first visited Jesus.

We remember too that “epiphany” is a word that means comprehending, often through inspired perception that arises out of profound awareness.

Guide us on this day of revelation to be profoundly aware of your presence in everything we see and do.

Let us see Christ revealed in the beauty of creation, in the common everyday world, and even in the awful – where you are always perched poised to call us away to better things.

In violence reveal to us your call to kindness.

In selfishness reveal to us your call to share.

In greed reveal to us your call to charity.

In hate reveal to us your call to love.

In war reveal to us your call to peace.

We know that Christ revealed all these things to us in his teaching and his Way of life. Help us to heed his words to follow his Way to you as we live and breath in this remarkable world that you have provided.

AMEN
