Pastoral Prayer For Martin Luther King Jr. Day

By Administrator | January 24, 2008

 Pastoral Prayer 1.20.08

God of Justice and Righteousness,

This week we honor the gifts that Martin Luther King Jr. gave to us during his short, but, extraordinary life. We are thankful that you have made humans capable of such courage and eloquence and leadership as Rev. Dr. King, and all those who were capable of hearing your call to justice and righteousness through him and acting upon it. The world is a better place because of Martin Luther King and those who followed him–because they dared to followed your call.

Guide us to listen today for your call to justice and righteousness– to dare to follow it.

There is still much work to be done. Hungry to feed; Thirsty to give drink; Naked to clothe; Stranger to welcome; Sick to care for; Imprisoned to visit, and Christ to tend to in many places.

In the words of Amos, God, through us “let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever flowing stream.”

Let our actions, be your actions.

Amen
