| Meet the Pastor |
In 1987, Scott earned a Doctorate in Jurisprudence at the University of Oregon. After passing the Oregon State Bar, Scott
established a practice on the Oregon coast in Lincoln City, where he also ran a very successful theatre program for youth
and families which earned him a Coastal Communities Cultural Center's Annual Award for Commitment to Excellence in the
Arts.
In 2003, after sixteen years of practicing law, Scott and his family headed to Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO
where he earned a Masters of Divinity degree.
Scott is known for sermons that challenge the listener to center on Jesus' call to embrace not only a loving God, but all
people especially those others might place on the margins or think of as sinners. Riviera United Church of Christ's vision
statement is "Thinking openly, believing passionately and serving boldly" and Scott seeks to aim the church toward that
everyday keeping our eyes and ears on Christ and letting our hands and feet be the instruments of God's love in the world.
As one moderator, David Cook, put it, "I think I speak for the entire congregation when I say that we feel quite fortunate that
someone with Scott's theology and talents has found his way to our church in Palm Bay. We are excited about the influence
his pastoral leadership will have in our community as Riviera UCC strives to realize fully its vision statement."
Scott and Nancy have four wonderful children and make their home in the downtown Melbourne area where they love to walk,
play at the beach and putter around the house.
Scott was hired as our assistant pastor on June 17, 2006 and began serving as our sole pastor early in 2008. Scott is an
integral and beloved member of the Riviera UCC congregation and staff, and was voted by an overwhelming majority to be
installed as RUCC's head pastor on October 19, 2008.

The Reverend Scott Elliott
Our pastor, the Reverend Scott Elliott was born and raised in San Jose, CA. Scott met his
wife Nancy while attending San Jose City College, and the two of them went off to California
State University Stanislaus where Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama, magna
cum laude in 1979.
