Music at Rivera United Church of Christ
Psalms 100:1-2 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness and come before God’s
presence with singing!
Music is a gift from God, and each of us offers our music to God in thanksgiving and praise. Music speaks to the soul and
uplifts the spirit. It deepens our worship experience and helps us express ours thanks, joy and praise.
Chancel Choir
The chancel choir welcomes all adult voices singing soprano, alto, tenor or bass, and is under the leadership of our beloved
music director, Ken Marshall. The choir sings a variety of music and provides an anthem during the traditional service each
Sunday from September through May. Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend. No experience is necessary. The only
requirements are a love of singing and a willingness to commit the necessary time. Practice is held Wednesday evenings from
7:00 PM to approximately 8:30 PM. The choir meets at 8:30 AM on Sunday mornings for a warm-up rehearsal prior to the 9:00
AM service in which they serve. Special choral offerings may be performed during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and other
special services throughout the year. In preparation for larger choral works, the Chancel Choir may invite extra singers to form
the Cantata Choir to perform a special Sunday worship cantata often including orchestral accompaniment.
Praise Band - Covenant
The praise band provides music for the contemporary service 52 weeks per year. Currently the band consists of two vocalists,
pianist, guitarist and percussionist. The band plays an assortment of contemporary Christian songs, praise choruses and
some secular songs. Anyone interested in joining the praise band should contact the music director, Ken Marshall. Practice is
held Sunday afternoons from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. The praise band meets Sundays from 10:15 AM – 10:45 AM for a warm-up
rehearsal prior to the 11:00 AM service in which they serve.
