Pastor’s Note March 2019
Passion is an attribute that is clearly seen and heard in the story of Jesus. As we journey through Lent, let us allow our own passion to compliment that of Christ! Passion is recognized as a trait sought after by leaders of most successful businesses! Passion is the element that turns the story of a carpenter’s son into a spell binding drama which has rocked the world for nearly two thousand years! We, modern Christians, we need to turn up our energy for sharing God’s abundant love! There is so much hatred and distrust in our world today. We owe it to ourselves and those we are called to serve… to passionately share God’s love with all of neighbors! It is true that two wrongs will not make a right. Yet, one passionately expressed truth can overcome a weak and shadowed wrong!
Throughout this month the topic of Lent shall be discussed in our church and churches around the world. Ash Wednesday starts us on the journey as we acknowledge our humanness. This is an opportunity for all of us, you and me, to renew and refresh our understanding of God. It is a time to reflect on why we follow the teachings of Jesus. We are called to search ourselves, looking inward to see how our assets and abilities, which we do have, can be used to move us ever forward in our quest to serve the ministry of Christ in our community. Lent is also a time when we can set aside a moment – to focus on our relationship – with our Creator; thereby strengthening our connection to and with the Living Spirit of God. Our mission, our task and our calling need to ring clearly in our hearts as to ‘why’ we have been brought together as a community of faith. Let us allow Lent to be a time to discern the voice of God in our midst as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, the Christ.
