Meet Our Pastor

Reverend Day Broers (brewers) was born and raised in Illinois, where she was steeped in a theological culture from an early age. Her grandfather, an inspiration and a huge well of support during her call, was also a widely respected minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

She earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois before moving to Florida. She went on to earn her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida.

She first sensed a call to ministry in 1994, and with the blessing and support of her family, she left Florida behind to attend Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. During her second year of seminary, Rev. Day became quite homesick for Florida and asked the Holy to allow her to return to Florida after she completed her education.

God answered her prayers, and she was called to serve at Fort Myers Christian Church. She was subsequently called to serve as Senior Minister at Brandon Christian Church in the Tampa Bay area. Rev. Day would serve Brandon for seventeen years, the longest-tenured Senior Minister in the church’s history.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a mainline Protestant denomination that was founded as a Restoration movement during the Second Great Awakening. The UCC and Disciples share many theological similarities, as well as a congregational polity and local autonomy, where decisions are made by the congregation, rather than a centralized authority.

The two denominations also have a history of shared ministries, with the most prominent being the Justice and Witness Ministry, Global Ministries. Reverend Day and First Christian Church of Melbourne share our core values of a radical welcome for all and a Still-Speaking God.

We are incredibly blessed to have her with us. Rev. Day’s view of the Scriptures is that when properly read, they offer a blessing for everyone. As such, she typically offers dynamic sermons that leave a lasting impression on us, while also making us feel blessed and grateful for hearing
the Word of the Divine.
